A PVC coated gabion box is a galvanized gabion with a second, plastic layer of protection extruded over every wire. It is what to specify wherever the box will sit in water, salt, polluted run-off or aggressive soil — river works, drains, coasts and industrial sites.

Weights for 10×12 mesh, PVC coated 2.70 / 3.70 mm, including diaphragms and selvedges — our production figures. An 8×10 box of the same size is roughly a quarter heavier (more mesh per square metre). All galvanized and PVC weights: gabion box sizes and weights.
In BOQs this box is written “DT hexagonal gabion box, 10x12 mesh, 2.7/3.7 mm Zn+PVC” — often simply “2.7/3.7 mm PVC coated gabion”. It is the most specified gabion in Indian tenders today, above all in Uttar Pradesh flood and river works and in Jammu & Kashmir, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam and Delhi. 2.7/3.7 means a 2.7 mm zinc-coated core with PVC making 3.7 mm overall; 10x12 is the mesh type with a 100 mm opening. The same line with a Zn-Al core is a Galfan gabion box; every other spec: gabion box specification.
State pages: Uttar Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Kerala, Assam, Delhi NCR.
For dry hill-road walls in clean ground, heavily galvanized boxes are usually enough and cost less.

A gabion box woven from galvanized (or zinc–aluminium coated) steel wire with an extruded PVC jacket on every wire, for use in water, salt or polluted conditions.
Usually 2.70 mm core wire with PVC making 3.70 mm overall for the mesh, heavier wire for the selvedges, and 2.20 / 3.20 mm PVC coated lacing wire.
About 17.9 kg in 10×12 mesh with 2.70 / 3.70 mm wire, including the diaphragm; an 8×10 box is heavier.
A 2.7 mm zinc-coated core wire with an extruded PVC jacket making 3.7 mm overall, woven into double twisted mesh.
Either — it makes no difference to protection. Green is common in India for river and road work; grey is often specified for export and architectural work.
