A tender BOQ usually describes a gabion in one line: “DT hexagonal gabion box, 10x12 mesh, 2.7/3.7 mm Zn+PVC” or “10x12 mesh, 3.0 mm GI” or “wire crate, 4 mm GI @ 32 kg per 10 sqm”. This page decodes each of those lines, gives the weight of every standard box, and says what to send for a quotation.
| Part of the line | Means |
|---|---|
| DT hexagonal gabion box | machine-woven double twisted hexagonal mesh, folded into a box (IS 16014:2024) |
| 10x12 mesh | mesh type 10×12: opening D = 100 mm (also written 100x120 mm) |
| 8x10 mesh | mesh type 8×10: D = 80 mm (also 80x100 mm) |
| 2.7 mm GI / 3.0 mm GI | mesh wire diameter, heavily zinc coated, no PVC |
| 2.7/3.7 mm Zn+PVC | 2.7 mm zinc-coated core, PVC jacket making 3.7 mm overall |
| 2.7/3.7 mm Galfan / Zn-Al | 2.7 mm zinc-5% aluminium core, PVC to 3.7 mm overall |
| wire crate, 4 mm GI @ 32 kg/10 sqm | older crate clause (MoRTH 2503.3 / IRC:89): 4 mm galvanised wire, mesh not exceeding 100×100 mm, at least 32 kg of mesh per 10 sq m |
| diagonal-mesh crate (IS 280) | crate of 4 mm wire to IS 280 with a 100×100 mm diagonal mesh |
| Spec (as the BOQ writes it) | 1.5×1×1 m | 2×1×1 m | 3×1×1 m | 4×1×1 m | 2×1×0.5 m |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10x12 mesh, 2.7 mm GI | 11.0 | 15.1 | 21.7 | 28.3 | 10.6 |
| 10x12 mesh, 3.0 mm GI | 13.9 | 18.9 | 27.0 | 35.1 | 13.4 |
| 10x12 mesh, 3.25 mm GI | 16.3 * | 22.2 * | 31.7 * | 41.2 * | 15.7 * |
| 10x12 mesh, 2.7/3.7 mm Zn+PVC | 13.2 | 17.9 | 25.7 | 33.4 | 12.7 |
| 10x12 mesh, 2.7/3.7 mm Galfan (Zn-Al) + PVC | 13.2 | 17.9 | 25.7 | 33.4 | 12.7 |
Including diaphragms every metre and selvedges. 2.7 mm, 3.0 mm and 2.7/3.7 mm figures are our production weights; * 3.25 mm is an estimate scaled from 3.0 mm. Galfan + PVC weighs the same as Zn + PVC. All sizes: gabion box sizes and weights.
Send the BOQ line as it is written, the quantity in cum (or number of boxes) and the site. We confirm the mesh, wire and coating against it, give the weight per box and quote delivered. ISO 9001:2015 certified; test certificate supplied with every lot. WhatsApp +91 89440-32355.
Mesh type 10×12 of IS 16014: the hexagonal opening D is 100 mm. It is also written 100x120 mm.
A 2.7 mm metallic-coated core wire with a PVC jacket that makes it 3.7 mm overall — about 0.5 mm of PVC each side.
About 15.1 kg in 10x12 mesh with 2.7 mm GI wire, 18.9 kg with 3.0 mm GI, and 17.9 kg with 2.7/3.7 mm Zn+PVC.
They suit different places. 3.0 mm GI is a heavier bare wire for dry, clean ground; 2.7/3.7 mm Zn+PVC has a thinner core but a PVC jacket that protects it in water and polluted or saline conditions.
