Square openings from IS 4948:2002; rectangular sizes (2 × 1 inch, 3 × 1 inch, 3 × 2 inch) and every other size are on the welded mesh weight chart, with a calculator. Weights are bare steel — galvanizing adds a little.
Weld mesh is quoted per kg, per square foot or per roll. Bring every quote to weight: a 2 inch (50 mm) mesh in 10 gauge wire weighs about 2.45 kg per square metre (0.227 kg per sq ft); 1 inch mesh in 12 gauge about 3.08 kg/m². A cheaper sheet that weighs less has thinner wire. Ask for the wire diameter in mm, not only the gauge.

A grid of steel wires welded at every crossing — also called welded wire mesh, GI jali or MS jali. It is made to IS 4948:2002 in rolls or flat panels.
About 0.227 kg per sq ft for 2 inch mesh in 10 gauge wire, and 0.286 kg per sq ft for 1 inch mesh in 12 gauge.

GI jali is galvanized (zinc coated) and suits outdoor use; MS jali is plain mild steel and rusts unless painted.
