For 50 mm (2 inch) mesh, the most common jali. 12 gauge is about 2.5 mm wire, 10 gauge about 3.15 mm, 8 gauge about 4 mm (gauge chart). Fabric only — line wires and posts are extra. Other meshes and any height are made to order.
Jali is quoted per kg, per square foot or per running foot. To compare, bring everything to weight: a 50 mm × 10 gauge jali weighs about 2.30 kg per square metre (0.214 kg per sq ft). A jali that is cheaper per square foot but lighter than this has thinner wire or a wider mesh. Check any size with the chain link weight calculator.
Woven diamond-pattern wire fencing, also called chain link fencing, fencing jali or ILC fencing. It is made to IS 2721:2003 in galvanized or PVC coated wire.
Heights of 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 and 10 feet are standard (0.9 to 3.0 m), in 50 mm mesh and 12, 10 or 8 gauge wire; other meshes from 25 to 150 mm are made to order.
In 50 mm mesh and 10 gauge wire, about 4.14 kg per running metre of 6 ft (1.8 m) high jali; in 12 gauge, about 2.64 kg.
12 gauge for gardens and light boundaries, 10 gauge for most plots and factories, 8 gauge where the fence must take abuse or stand a long time.
