Chain link mesh — called interlinked chain (ILC) fencing, GI chain link fencing or chain link jali in tenders and BOQs — is made by winding wire into flat helices and interweaving them into a continuous diamond mesh, with no knots or welds. It is quick to put up over long runs, easy to repair a panel at a time, and lets light, air and sightlines through.
The Indian Standard is IS 2721:2003, Galvanized steel chain link fence fabric. It fixes the mesh sizes and wire diameters, the line wires, heavy zinc coating and the wire tests. For coastal, wet or decorative work we make the same fabric in PVC coated wire.

Every combination in Table 1 of IS 2721:2003, with the fabric weight. Tenders often write the wire in gauge — “50 × 50 mm × 10 gauge” is 50 mm mesh in 3.15 mm wire.

One fabric, a lot of boundaries.
Plot and property lines, farms and plantations, marked clearly and cheaply over long perimeters.
Factory perimeters, warehouses, substations and yards where supervision through the fence is an advantage — often topped with concertina.
Schools, campuses, playgrounds and sports courts — PVC coated where it is seen up close or near the coast.
The same fabric does other jobs on site.
Pinned to cut slopes and tunnel walls under shotcrete, or as surface cover on hill roads — chain link mesh for slope protection.
Stores, transformer yards, machine areas, poultry and animal enclosures, and partitions inside sheds.
Posts, line wires, stretching and joining rolls — chain link fencing installation, step by step.
Yes — galvanized and PVC coated chain link fence, by road to Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh and by sea from Kolkata. We quote against EN 10223-6 or ASTM A392 / F668 on request.
Yes. Chain link jali, fencing jali, chainlink, chain link mesh, ILC fencing and diamond mesh are all the same woven diamond fabric. See chain link jali: names, sizes in feet and weights.
12 gauge (2.50 mm) for gardens and light boundaries, 10 gauge (3.15 mm) for most plots, factories and schools, and 8 gauge (4.00 mm) where the fence must take abuse or last longest.
Bring both to weight. 50 mm mesh in 10 gauge wire weighs about 2.30 kg per square metre (0.214 kg per sq ft); a lighter fabric has thinner wire or a wider mesh. Use the weight calculator.
PVC coated, wherever it is wet, coastal or polluted: the jacket protects the zinc. In a dry inland site heavy galvanized chain link is the economical choice.
Yes — under shotcrete and as surface cover on cut slopes. See chain link mesh for slope protection.
On straining and intermediate posts, with line wires, stretched with stretcher bars and tied. Step by step: chain link fencing installation.
IS 2721:2003, Galvanized steel chain link fence fabric. It sets the mesh sizes (25 to 150 mm), the mesh and line wire diameters, heavy zinc coating to IS 4826 and the wire tests.
About 2.3 kg per square metre (0.21 kg per sq ft) for 50 mm mesh in 3.15 mm (10 SWG) wire, fabric only. 8 gauge (4.00 mm) is about 3.65 kg/m². See the weight chart and calculator.
IS 2721 widths are 0.90, 1.20, 1.50, 1.80, 2.00, 2.50 and 3.00 m, in rolls of 5, 10, 15, 20 or 25 m — and we make other sizes to order.
Yes — the same fabric in PVC coated GI wire, usually green. See PVC coated chain link fencing.
7314 41 10 for galvanized and 7314 42 10 for PVC coated chain link, at 18% GST. See HSN codes and GST.
Another name for chain-link fencing — the diamond mesh formed by helically wound wires hooked into one another. Indian tenders use both terms, and they mean the same fabric.
Made to your requirement, in galvanized or PVC coated wire. Specify the fabric height, the mesh aperture and the wire gauge — or send the tender clause and we will read them off it.
Yes, and it usually is where the fence has to deter rather than merely demarcate. Barbed wire on extension arms is the common arrangement; concertina coil is used where a stronger deterrent is wanted.
