Silchar lies on low ground in a loop of the Barak river, protected by embankments that the river tests every monsoon. When an embankment breaches, the town floods; when the Barak and its tributaries erode their banks, roads and villages go with them. Drains that cannot discharge into a high river back up into the city.
Silchar is also the gateway to Mizoram, Manipur (by Jiribam) and Tripura, and much material for those states passes through it. We deliver gabions, mattresses and fencing to contractors in the Barak Valley from our Ethelbari works.

Silchar is supplied from our Ethelbari works by road through Assam. On flood work the quantities are large: stock sack gabions near the embankment before the rains.
The Barak rises from about May to September. Embankment works must be complete before the river rises; sack gabions are for the emergencies during it.
Embankments, aprons and drains: PVC coated mattresses and boxes over a geotextile — these units are in water for months.
Emergency work: sack gabions, PVC coated, filled and placed by crane or by hand.
Fencing: chain link to IS 2721 (galvanized or PVC coated), barbed wire to IS 278 and concertina coil.
