Plateau roads, streams through the city, and some of the heaviest rain anywhere. Gabion boxes, revet mattresses and wire mesh made to IS 16014:2024 by an ISO 9001:2015 certified manufacturer.
Shillong sits on the Meghalaya plateau, close to some of the wettest places on earth. Streams such as the Umkhrah and Umshyrpi run through the city, hill roads climb the plateau edge from Guwahati, and slopes cut for roads and houses stay soaked for months at a time.
Meghalaya also has plenty of hard rock, which makes gabions an economical way to build there. We deliver gabion boxes, mattresses and rockfall netting to contractors working in and around Shillong from our Ethelbari works, by way of Guwahati.
Retaining and breast walls on the roads climbing the plateau edge and around the city.
Mattresses and boxes protecting the banks and beds of the streams through Shillong.
Free-draining gabion walls where a solid wall would trap water behind it.
Netting over cut rock faces on the plateau roads.
Shillong is supplied from our Ethelbari works by road through Guwahati. Local quarries supply good hard stone, so only the folded mesh has to travel.
The monsoon here is long — roughly May to September — and the rainfall is extreme. Build between October and April and expect drainage, not loading, to decide how walls behave.
Walls on saturated ground: gabions are the right choice precisely because they drain; put a geotextile filter behind them so the clay soil does not wash into the stone.
Streams and permanently wet walls: PVC coated wire.
General hill walls: heavily galvanized 10×12 boxes, 2.70 mm wire.
Send the clause from your drawing or BOQ and we will confirm the mesh type, wire diameters and coating against it before quoting.

Yes — by road from our Ethelbari works through Guwahati. Send the BOQ with the site location.
The rain is extreme and the ground stays wet; a gabion wall drains through itself, so no water pressure builds behind it, and good hard stone is available locally to fill it.
Tell us your dimensions, wire specification and quantity — we'll come back with a quotation and lead time.
