Hill roads into Sikkim and Darjeeling, Mahananda and Teesta banks, jhora crossings. Gabion boxes, revet mattresses and wire mesh made to IS 16014:2024 by an ISO 9001:2015 certified manufacturer.
Siliguri sits where the plains meet the Himalaya. Every road into Sikkim, Darjeeling, the Dooars and the North East runs through it, and within a short drive the ground turns from river terraces to steep foothill slopes. That mix — the Mahananda through the city, the Teesta at Sevoke, the Balason, and dozens of hill streams (jhoras) coming down from the hills — is why gabions are used here on almost every kind of civil work.
Our Ethelbari works is in the Dooars, on the same side of North Bengal as Siliguri, so gabions for Siliguri and the roads north of it are delivered direct by road from our own factory.
Retaining and breast walls on the cut slopes of the Sevoke–Teesta road and the hill roads above the city.
Mattresses and gabion boxes along the Mahananda, Teesta and Balason, and at jhora crossings where flash floods scour the bank.
Netting draped over the rock cuttings along the Teesta valley, where loose rock reaches the road every monsoon.
Check dams and jhora training on the estates between Siliguri and the Dooars.
Siliguri is supplied from our Ethelbari works in the Dooars rather than from Howrah — the shorter run, and the right side of Bengal for the hill roads to the north.
Gabions travel folded flat in bundles with their lacing wire, so a single truck carries a lot of wall. The stone is sourced near the site; the river beds and quarries around the foothills have plenty of hard boulder.
The foothills take very heavy monsoon rain from June to September, and that is when slopes slip and jhoras rise. Build from October to May, and have hill-road walls and stream crossings finished before the rains.
Hill-road retaining and breast walls: heavily galvanized boxes, 10×12 mesh, 2.70 mm wire, on a compacted base with a geotextile filter behind.
River banks and jhora crossings: PVC coated mattresses and boxes, because the wire sits in fast water carrying sand and gravel.
Rock cuttings: rockfall netting in 25 m rolls, anchored at the crest.
Send the clause from your drawing or BOQ and we will confirm the mesh type, wire diameters and coating against it before quoting.
