Arunachal Pradesh is steep, young mountain country with some of the heaviest rainfall in India. Roads cut along the Siang, Subansiri, Kameng and Lohit valleys face landslides, rockfall and washouts, and the growing network of roads and hydropower projects needs walls that can cope with movement.

Arunachal takes pre-monsoon rain from April and the full monsoon from June to September, and the state is among the wettest in India. Slope work is effectively limited to the drier months, so material wanted for the October start should be ordered well before the rains, not after them.
